An unbuilt-upon waterfront block of land covered in Melaleucas on the Tasman Sea, Tasmania provided an amazing ground for a new dwelling.

The ocean laps a strip of massive kelp seaweed giving way to huge white weathered granite boulders covered in part with bright orange lichen.

Provided were a residence and artist’s studio for a couple. A separate dwelling provides living quarters and studio for visiting artists. The outcome is simple and strong in contrast to highlight how amazing the landscape is.

Simplicity was the key to provide minimal impact on the landscape, sustainable materials, maximum use of passive solar design and off the grid.
