A traditional hip roof was sliced off a two-storey residence to make way for a concrete tray - the tray being upturned edges of a floor to form balustrades and planter boxes.

An open bedroom, artist studio and multiple courtyards within a native bush landscape allowed full privacy as well as 360-degree views to the Pacific, Coogee Beach and west across the Cumberland Plain to the Blue Mountains. The indigenous plants attract native birds and insects.

Simplicity was the key. Sustainable materials, maximum use of passive solar design, a solar hot water heater and a photovoltaic array for electricity were deployed to reduce running costs and minimise damage to the Planet.
